Our group consists of members from the Thomas Worthington High School jazz band that have created a small jazz combo band. We had started this little outside band in 2014-2015 as freshmen, and entered in a talent show, winning first place while collecting $250! We've been working hard and have recruited more members to join us as well! After receiving help from our jazz band directors, we know we'll have a professional jazz band sound.
Our goal of creating this jazz band was to practice and strengthen our improvisational skills, as well as implementing music theory concepts to help us in understanding lead sheets, jazz symbols, composition and learning to play by ear. We have done very well in working to achieve this, and believe that we are ready to start looking for venues which in turn gets our name out in the public. So in the end, we're learning new jazz concepts while producing music we love!
Alexander Toth
Alexander Toth is the band leader that started this band in the very beginning! He works hard and plays any instrument that is needed! He definitely makes the band a fun experience!
Mallory Hartsell
Mallory Hartsell is a very talented singer and adds great value to the band! She is always engaging and fills in on new instruments for the band! Without her, the band would be lost. She supplies us with most cowbell!
Justin Karmick
Justin Karmick is a very dedicated trumpet player when it comes to any kind of music! He wasn't in the original band, but after having him join us the band has grown even better in sound!
Anthony LaMacchia
Anthony LaMacchia is a new member of the band, but still rocks out those grooves! He has the mind for improvisation and loves playing out for the tunes!
Kevin Burris
Kevin Burris is a newer member of the group, but has been so much help to the band. He would come to practices on his own and fill in for absences in band! He has now become one of our greatest trumpeters in the band!
Oliver Mahnke
Oliver Mahnke is definitely the support of trumpet section! He's got the chops, and he's got the style! The Blue Jays are very glad to have him in the band, and you'll definitely have to come see him play!
Nate Blake
Nate Blake is a newer band member, but has been beneficial to us! He took on the job for getting gigs, equipment, music and much more for the band! He also supplies his talent to the band by playing trumpet and french horn!
Ethan Hughes
Ethan Hughes is a new member of the group, but without him, the band would never its full, round sound. He plays tuba and also subs in on bass as well! He has a great personallity for the audience as well!
Sarah O'Brien
Sarah O'Brien has been a newer member of the band, but has been a great and well needed addition to the band! She always has a great attitude and is our 'mother' for the band!
